The Egnyte Cloud File Server can be configured to provide automatic backup on a scheduled, continual or on-demand basis for any computer on your network. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the Egnyte backup application, it will recommend specific folders for back up. For example, on a Windows computer, the default recommendations are "My Documents" and your "Desktop Folder.” You can accept these defaults, or optionally, you can identify other folders for back up.

The backup process can be scheduled to run at a specific time each day, on a continual basis (for example, look for changes every four hours) or on an ad hoc basis (on-demand). While the initial back up is comprehensive, targeting all designated files and folders (including Outlook-related .PST archive files), subsequent back ups are designed to pick up only new files or changes to existing files.

The backup process is very secure, since files are encrypted during transmission, and fast, as files are compressed prior to transmission and only new and altered files are sent (following the initial "primary” backup). This helps optimizes your network bandwidth. Egnyte also lets you create advanced settings to control how the backup is scheduled and how it utilizes your network.

All backed up files are instantly made available from the Egnyte Cloud File Server. You can view backed up files using a web browser or smartphone, and both backed up files and folders can be restored with a single click.

Egnyte also provides proactive alerts that you can use to manage your backup. You can choose to be notified each time a successful backup has occurred, and keep track of all backup file statistics. This can be useful for obtaining a quick backup status summary across all employee computers, helping you to quickly identify employees that are not actively backing up their computers.
