3 Takeaways From the 2021 Egnyte for Life Sciences Summit

The 2021 Egnyte for Life Sciences Summit is in the books, and it was a big success.

Biotech visionaries and industry analysts came together to outline the future of the life sciences as we emerge from the pandemic constraints and look to ramp up to our new normal. We presented over four hours of content, with hundreds of life science organizations attending.

When we started thinking about the event, we weren’t sure if people would have “Zoom fatigue” or be tired of all the conjecture about the future of the industry that we’ve all been subject to over the past 18 months. However, we set a registration goal that was quickly exceeded. In fact, we nearly tripled our goal by the day of the Summit.

I attribute the demand to our top-quality speakers and topics curated from the concerns and questions we hear every day from our customers.

We know people are busy and not everyone could make it that day, so we’ve made the sessions available on-demand. Before we link to each session, here are three takeaways that stemmed from the discussions at the event.

Some Pandemic-Related Work Changes Are Here to Stay—and That’s Good

Despite recent impediments, the life sciences industry is eager to get back to full speed as soon as possible. We’ve learned a lot from the challenges of the pandemic. We’ve changed the way we work, operate, communicate, and collaborate. Some of these things—decentralized trials, online collaboration, remote workforces—will  stick around and make work more efficient, and the industry is ready to capitalize on those changes.

AI Is Hot

Artificial Intelligence is finally making its way into the mainstream. No longer is it reserved for cutting-edge projects, it’s being used to automate the mundane, menial tasks that eat up so much time in the drug discovery and clinical trial phases. As AI and machine learning are more widely adopted, they will free up bandwidth for more high-value tasks.

Security Is in the Back of Everyone’s Minds

After a relentless couple of years of high-profile cyber attacks on the life sciences industry and our mission-critical work, IT departments are battle weary from hardening their systems and dealing with the aftermath of successful attacks. As the methods and tactics escalate, organizations are asking how they can keep information secure without slowing down collaboration with external parties.
