Product Update Roundup – January 2021

In addition to the regular updates brought to you through January, here are some of the updates in Egnyte that you may have missed:

Co-Editing and Collaboration Updates

After January’s update to co-editing in Microsoft Online and Google Workspace, additional enhancements have been made in recent releases to continue to improve upon the collaboration experience in Egnyte, including:

“Direct Link” sharing

Users can now share the direct link to a file from the Web UI in both the Folder Listing view and the File Preview view; formerly, this option could only be found under the “Details” tab in File Preview mode. This option allows users to quickly direct collaborators to the direct file where they can edit in Microsoft Online or Google Workspace, leave comments, or assign tasks.

If a co-editing session is currently underway, users will receive a pop-up notification on this screen informing them that a co-editing session is underway and offering the option to stay on the file page or join the session.

Note: In order for a direct link to work and retain co-editing and other features for its recipient, they must have permissions to the file’s location.

Collaboration notification

Logged-in users of the Web interface who are previewing a file currently being co-edited will receive a notification bar across the top of the window informing them that the document is currently undergoing editing. In addition to notifying the user of ongoing edits, it also provides a reminder that the file preview may not reflect the changes currently being made within the document.

Collaborate from the folder listing

In the Web UI, users will now notice a “Status” column for files in the folder listing view. From this column, users can now share, download or comment on a file, as well as check what version of the file is currently available or how many times it has been changed. This enables users to collaborate quickly and on multiple files at a time within a folder, saving time and effort.

Mobile-friendly uploads

The “Request Files from Others” page is now fully responsive to mobile devices, with improved user experience while entering text and adding attachments; external collaborators who are invited to upload files can now do so more easily from mobile devices.
