Red Bull streamlines workflows for thousands around the world while maintaining centralized control of company content.
More than just an energy drink, Red Bull is a global sports and cultural icon and a way of life. Whether it’s empowering customers, athletes, fans, colleagues, or business partners, Red Bull employees are innovative, driven, and relentless in their pursuit of the highest standards of excellence across everything they do.
Prior to Egnyte, individual Red Bull teams were sharing files through a variety of local and private methods, such as office-based file servers, email attachments, and Box and Dropbox accounts.
As a result, there was no centralized place to find and access the agency's diverse set of assets – which range from presentations and spreadsheets, to movies and artwork, to music and games, to iconic cartoons.
Dependable file access was a problem for office-based staff and thousands of remote ambassadors, who build and maintain Red Bull’s brand image in places like bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and retail stores.
That meant thousands of people requiring access to millions of files across more than 300 different offices at all hours of the day and night – often from remote venues and devices. Red Bull’s small IT team was not able to provide support at high volumes to users in all places and time-zones.
Red Bull selected Egnyte to provide users simple, yet fast and flexible file sharing capability on a global scale.
Employees in the office and in the field can now securely access content from Egnyte’s central file repository – anytime, anywhere, on any device. Its native integrations with tools like OneDrive, Teams, and Office Online make it easy to co-author documents in real-time, without having to move files in and out of Egnyte or create duplicate copies.
IT can easily provision users and control access, with granular permissions at the folder and subfolder level. This ensures that only the right team members have access to the right files, and no one has access to files they shouldn’t.
When users share files outside the corporate network with partners, customers, vendors, or retailers, they can easily send out customizable links. IT can maintain centralized visibility and control and even limit users from allowing access to non-authorized parties, set expirations dates on when links and files can be viewed, downloaded, or edited, and monitor for unusual activity.
Red Bull IT rolled out Egnyte globally to around 10,000 users in less than three months. Users were trained via video and could be up and running in minutes. Internally named Bull Drive, the solution quickly replaced local file storage for thousands of employees in only the first year of operation.
Today, there are more than 20,000 users on Egnyte – which synchronizes files everywhere – across desktop and mobile storage, the web, and even on-premises appliances enabling fast upload and download speeds for teams working over a Red Bull local network. The adoption and productivity benefits continue to increase every year, with minimal admin required by IT.
As data volumes grow, Red Bull’s IT team taps into Egnyte’s turnkey lifecycle management capabilities – powered by built-in AI – to automate the retention, archiving, and deletion of files. This enables Red Bull to effectively manage storage costs and reduce content risks over time, while also helping users by minimizing unnecessary clutter on the system.
Inspired by functional drinks from the Far East, Dietrich Mateschitz founded Red Bull in the mid-1980s. He developed not only a new product but also a unique marketing concept and launched Red Bull Energy Drink in Austria on April 1, 1987. A completely new product category was born – energy drinks.
